Free Pic

When I look through all the pictures I've taken over the course of this class, even the ones I didn't use in particular projects, even the ones I took simply for the "free pic" assignment, I don't think I've taken a better picture than this one. This was one of my artist emulation photos that I worked really hard on to get everything just right and i think it turned out amazing! The person over the house was me. I wanted to be in the picture myself to be more apart of it and get more of the real emotion out of it and really understand it myself and I think that's why this is my favorite.

Laurie Simmons Emu.

What vision or ideas did the photographer want to convey in their photographs?
Laurie loved making a factional reality. She liked making the unreal abstract world of dolls look like the possible and the real.

What photographic techniques did your photographer use when photographing, developing, and/or presentation?
She had moderately dim lighting or it was so that the lighting was focused just on the scene she was creating. When looking at her work, she makes you think a few different things such as 1. Is that real? and 2. Why did she choose to do this?

Who or what motivated your photographer to be interested in photography?
Laurie clams that life itself (and a little childhood imagination) is her inspiration to making the real world play out on the miniature scale.

Many of Laurie's photographs were played out in scenes. For example she had a series called "Cowboys" and it was a sequence of cowboy-like-dolls played out to make up almost a scene without actually spelling it out to people that it was a scene.

Like Laurie, I made a sequence as well that I have titled "Forgotten"

Laurie also has many photographs like the one I have here titled "Pink House." She symbolized many things in pictures like this such as women sterotypes, feminism and reality meeting the make believe.

Color Psychology

The main color of focus in this picture is brown. According to color psychology brown represents earth a lot of the time. If it's light brown (like in my picture) it implies genuineness. The picture is of the bristles of a broom. Because they are brown and brown represents all that I said above, the broom could be seen as cleaning the earth. There's a lot of earthly problems right now but this could be seen as a step towards cleaning it which would make it genuine.

Blue can be seen as a calming and relaxing color when it's in the right setting or the right shade. But sometimes it is also seen as a depressing color. In this case it's meant as calming. My point of capturing this as a photo was because whenever I look at these blue flower spheres, it just kind of stare at them so I thought if I captured a good picture of it, it could still give off the same effect.

Green is a relaxing color and sometimes even lazy. I love the color of the pot on the stove. It really is relaxing and slightly lazy because just looking at it I feel like there's lightly simmering food in the pot in a kind of lazy and relaxing way. Hopefully that's what the picture looks like to everyone else.

Orange is a very positive color. When looking at it there is supposed to be a positive appeal. This picture is very bright but I think it coveys the positive effect message with the oranges.

Attractive/Repulsive

This first picture is a close up of a Christmas tree which was ment to be an atteractive picture but as I looked at it more, I realized that I thought it looked dark and kind of violent. The pines from the tree seemed dangerous after staring at it and just dark all around.
The second picture is a tilted angle of my shoe which, like the tree, turned out to be the opposite of what I intended. This picture became atteractive to me. Everytime I looked at it I saw the cool shaded, almost blueish tint to it, and all the worn out parts of the show. Each worn out part reminded me of all the good times and good things that have happened in those shoes. I saw this atteractive because shoes go a long way. (That probably sounded corny.)
The thrid picture is of a candle on carpet. I didn't like it and I thought it was repulsive. It has a very nutural tone to it and comes off as very bland. It's very dull and I simply do not like it at all.
The forth picture was taken in my refridgerator. I really liked how it turned out so I choose it as an atteractive. Its soother and cool blue tone gives it more of an appeal compared to the red cap, egg carton and soda. It was taken on a tilt on a shelf in my fridge and if you look, the shelf has a awkword stain on it but I really really like how it blend with the picture.

Montage 3

This picture is called "Ancient Elegence." I tryed make the effect of the lights look kind of decheveled so it would look more "ancient" like the piano does. The beeds are their as a symbol of elegence. Over 100 years ago when women wore jewlery it was a sign of elegence and poise. The look I was trying to get across is exactly what the title says. The only thing I wish i could change was the color of the beeds. I'd make them a much lighter color.
